Your compensation ranges from $15 to $25 per hour, depending on your level of experience, for each fundraising or social event you manage. These social events encompass a variety of occasions, including weddings, family reunions, bar mitzvahs, and more, all dedicated to supporting terminally ill patients assigned to you by our organization.

Do you have the passion to change the world? You’re the right candidate for the position if you believe that if you’ve made one person’s life better with the work you’ve done as a Fundraiser, then you’ve accomplished something amazing.

Event planning is one of the best professions to be in right now, according to U.S. News & World Report. The field is fast-paced and demanding; however, the stress is worthwhile. You get to feel good knowing that you raised money for a worthy cause. The outcome is rewarding and meaningful.

Your work schedule is not always the same from week to week, due to meetings and special events that must be attended. Even though no single day is ever the same and this role is not suitable for someone who thrives on routine, there are effective fundraising method and routine tasks that you can follow to help ensure that you are on the right track with raising funds for your events.

Your typical work day...

A typical day could include writing thank you letters to people who have raised money for our organization. Your daily projects may include but are not limited to working on a newsletter, writing strategies, creating new fundraising initiatives and materials, budgeting, and donor liaison. There is a lot of scheduling, planning, and setting up phone calls or meetings with prospective donors. After your phone calls or meetings, your job consists of a lot of follow up and reporting in your office. It involves a lot of logistics to coordinate and reschedule a time to speak or meet up with prospective donors. There is also a fair amount of ongoing training.

Once you have successfully organized three fundraising events, your Internship Advisor will assign you to work with a patient from a local hospital who is facing a serious illness. Our nonprofit organization grants event “Wishes” to individuals who are facing serious illness.

Where is my work location?
Some assignments may require you to travel. Most assignments are often at the comfort of your home. You are required to be on-site (at the chosen location of the fundraiser) on the day of the fundraiser. The location for the day of an event is usually in a hospital.

Who will I report to?
You will be assigned to an advisor. You are required to report on a weekly basis to your assigned advisor regarding the progress of any upcoming events and/or fundraisers.

What are the required hours?
Hours required depend on how many fundraisers you are able to take on per month. You are required to plan and execute at least one fundraiser every two months. It is at your discretion to do more. Hours are chosen by you.

Will I be considered an employee?
Due to the flexibility in work hours and location, all of our planners are independent contractors.

    Free Event Planning Courses

    New students are eligible to take an event planning course for free through the Institute of Events and Design. The course allows you the opportunity to try it without financially committing to it. It is perfect if you want to learn more about event planning, improve your skills, or get ahead in your job.

    We were able to find other free event planning courses; however, they would give you only a few minutes or section of free access to their course and then they want you to pay to access the remaining portion. But that is not the case with their free course offer. As a student, you will have access to the same course curriculum and online training platform.

    Option 1: Study Now and Pay Later – No risk enrollment

    You can start studying now and pay your tuition fees after you secure your first job. Once you secure a job, you will only need to pay 10% of your monthly income towards your tuition fees. There will be no interest or additional fees. If you become unemployed, your SNPL will be paused during the period when you are not employed and will resume when you resume your employment. If you are unable to find employment after graduating, your SNPL repayment will not begin, therefore there are no risks to you.

    Option 2: Financial Assistance and Grants

    Recipients can receive support for up to 80% of the program cost, with the awarded amount deducted directly from the total. Recipients are not required to repay the funds.

How many events can an event planner plan per year?
The average event planner plans event planners plan an average of five to nine events per year. These events can take anywhere from one week to an entire month to plan depending on the size.

How many hours does an event planner work?
Expect your hours to vary. Generally, you’ll be working from 9 to 5 — it may vary depending on your availability. But when there are big events coming up, you’ll probably be working round the clock to make sure everything comes together perfectly (yes, that includes weekends).

What skills do you need?
You must not only be organized, but capable of a calm and tactful command with friendly yet to-the-point authority during last-minute situations. Ideally you are a fully rounded character. You are numerate, strategic, have solid business sense and creative flair. You will need to have excellent communication skills and be passionate in our mission. You will need to be able to network, since success in the role depends heavily on being able to forge positive relationships with supporters. Another area of your role will be to raise awareness of the charity's work, aims and goals. You must also be able to work independently and be a team player.

Although your interpersonal skills and personal qualities are vital to your success, it is important for you to have formal training in event planning with a concentration in fundraising events. Undertaking these courses will enable you to examine different methods of raising money and resources. You'll also learn new and innovative ways of approaching work and network.

How many fundraisers can I expect to service a year?
The total number of fundraisers that a planner organizes each year will vary depending on the type of fundraisers a planner takes on as some are more elaborate than others. The required planning time to successfully plan one med-size fundraiser is approximately 80 hours.
